The Wala Kooral-bi Centre required a construction approach that could withstand the Kimberley’s extreme wet and dry seasons and an immovable completion date. Located 123 kilometres south-east of Derby, the site’s monsoonal conditions left no margin for on-site delays, with any extension impacting the facility’s operational timetable.
Modular off-site construction was essential. All 18 units were prefabricated at WABi Systems’ Fremantle facility, allowing work to continue uninterrupted by weather and ensuring quality and program certainty. The completed modules were then transported and installed on Country, minimising on-site time and seasonal risk.
Delivered in just eight months, the centre demonstrates how off-site construction enables culturally led projects to be realised in challenging remote environments—without compromising time or purpose.
